Well I have been given the opportunity to play with an Ariza 700.
It came well packaged with a remote and RCA audio/video cables.
First thing I do with any receiver I try is hook it up to my TV and connect the coax from the LNB. I do this to make sure there are no problems when attempting to flash the unit. I downloaded the loader and latest flash. I first turned the unit on and was greeted with the initial setup screen asking me to pick a language.
I then proceeded to flash the unit. At first it would not flash so I removed the serial cable and replaced it with my NULL MODEM cable. Then the flash went fine and the unit powered down and re booted. I was then greeted with the language screen again. At that point I went through the screen and on to the setup screen. I selected the Echo 6/8 and Echo 7 settings and adjusted them to my configuration. My setup uses a Dishpro Quad LNB. Since there was no DP selection I used the standard configuration and hoped for the best. The next step was to scan the two birds. Guess it is somewhat intelligent because even with the Dishpro it found all channels. After a little reading on the web sites I went to Parental Control and in the old PW field I entered the i key followed by 2004.
This brought me to the hidden menu. I proceeded to the button and turned EMU on as I was told to do. I then exited the menu system and hit the sat button and selected Echostar Package. Real nice as all channels fell into Charlie order.
After a minute or two the keys rolled and I was watching TV.

I found the box to be very compact. I scanned around and everything seemed to be working fine I have not noticed any freezing after using it for a few hours.
I find did the video to not be quite as sharp as the Coolsat or Viewsat. Still it was fine. I did use the RCA for video. There is an s-video output but I did not test it.
There is also a fiber optic output for AC3 which I also did not test. By the way this unit does have a power switch in the rear. The remote worked well and the button layout seemed fine. I would have liked to see a multifunction remote so the TV power could also be controlled via the one remote. After setting the correct time in AM PM format I looked at the EPG. I also consider the AM PM a plus for this unit. It seems to fill quickly with about two hours of advanced programming. I also liked the info (i) button as it gave great detail on the splash screen. Channel changing is a bit slower then the Coolsat or Viewsat but much faster then my Pansat 5000HC. You must remember this is their entry level unit and It compares favorably with the Fortec Ultra or the Pansat 2500A. As long as Ariza continues to improve their flashes and listen to the end users I would definitely consider this a replacement for the Fortec Ultra which has been abandoned by Fortec for North America. What you have here is a good competitive box for a low price. I know this unit also supports Be\/ but I do not have my dish system configured for be\/ at this time. This will be corrected in the spring when it starts warming up.
